Deuteronomy 6 7 When You Books

Created to inspire storytelling, connection, and a love of heritage.

A unique twist on reading, writing, and family connection — Discover the Write With Me books.

Inspired by the words of Deuteronomy:

“When you sit at home, and when you walk along the road, when you lie down, and when you get up…”

These four “When You” keepsake books were created to help parents and children share stories, prayers, memories, and quiet moments together.

Filled with simple prayers, memory verses, poetry, watercolor illustrations, and gentle writing prompts, each book invites parents and children to create something personal side by side.

Some pages encourage storytelling. Others preserve childhood memories, nature discoveries, family conversations, or notes written back and forth between parent and child.

More than workbooks or activity books, these books become a collection of shared moments — helping children grow in reading, writing, faith, and the beauty of story. And freezing today’s moments for tomorrow’s memories.

How Are These Books Unique?

I had this yearning to create a book that was more than a bookshelf addition, more than a seasonal activity book. A keepsake book, one that had value over the years. The only way I could see to do that was to involve you, the reader, in the making. And your children.

Deuteronomy 6:7 says: Talk of them when you sit at home, and when you walk along the road, when you lie down, and when you get up. It’s repeated in Chapter 11.

Each of the four books has lots of pages to write, which is the truly important purpose.  Also pages of prayers, Scripture, and some have their own stories.

Here’s the book list:

When You Sit In Your House (Write notes with your child)

When You Lie Down (Tell your child stories of the past)

When You Rise Up (Thoughts to start your day)

When You Walk By The Way (Memories about your trips, nature walks)

Each book captures a different slice of family life over time.

If you’re thinking it would make a great gift, you’re right. A single book, or the whole set.

Let’s look at each book.

When You Sit In Your House

You and your child will love the peaceful theme of When You Sit In Your House. And the activity is unlike any other writing book.

You’ll write sweet notes to your child, and they’ll write back. It’s so uncommonly cozy. You can see how it works on the sample pages pictured here.

The book is designed to be a faith-based keepsake journal, giving you a beautiful snapshot of your child.

What’s the story behind this idea?

Well, It’s personal. 😏

Do you remember when your second child was born? Every first child feels a little displaced/neglected, right? Mine sure did.

She was just learning to read and write. During the baby’s naps and early bedtimes, we sat together and wrote short notes to each other. I can’t express how meaningful those times came to be. Pages and pages of sweet little notes, capturing her heart at that exact time. Our together time. A chance for her to hear “well done” or “I’m proud of you.”

How precious it would be to have those notes now, to give them to her now that she has daughters of her own.

If only I had saved them. 🥺

Because I didn’t realize how important those moments were, I want you to enjoy that special habit and have a treasure to keep in this book,  When You Sit In Your House.

You get a precious book of pages that your child can help you compose.  The artwork is sweet and simple. Plenty of pages, some with writing prompts. Plenty of prayers, Scriptures, and drawings of children almost as cute as yours.

And you’ll know (like I didn’t) to save these beautiful keepsakes.

That was the “note-writing” book, When You Sit In Your House. You will love it.

Next, let’s look at the “bedtime story” book: When You Lie Down.

When You Lie Down

Bedtime stories are nothing new — that is, until you use When You Lie Down to write them. Because these stories are in your heart, and your child wants to be a part of them.

So let them meet the kid you used to be.

The book is designed to be a faith-based keepsake journal, the treasured stories of your own childhood, shared with your little one.

What’s the big deal about stories?

Stories enter our minds on the fast track. They make sense in our understanding, and they create vivid memories that belong. It’s not just that they are fun; it’s that “story” is the best way we receive information.

When your child knows more about where you played, your favorite tree to climb, and how you learned to ride a bike, your child knows you. So write the story here, and tell it to your child with all the details — all the joy, all the fear, all the excitement, and even all the smells.

Give your child a front-row seat to the life you once lived.

Before you were a parent, you had a story.  Let your child walk through the moments that made you who you are.

With When You Lie Down, you get a precious book of pages that your child will treasure.  The artwork is sweet and simple. Lots of pages, writing prompts included. Plenty of prayers, Scriptures, and drawings of children almost as cute as yours.

The next book is When You Rise, a morning book.

When You Rise

There’s a lot of talk about being “intentional” these days. It’s a good word, and one we should share with our children. Starting the day with a verse from Proverbs is just the right size for a little one. And this book uses the “Easy-To-Read” Version of the Bible.

The “Wise Paths” pages in When You Rise let them write down a quick thought in response to the Scripture. Over time, the lists will grow.

Mornings.

There is something sacred about the quiet moments before the day gets busy.

Before the rush.
Before the noise.
Before the world starts speaking loudly.

When You Rise was created to help parents and children meet together in those small morning moments that become lifelong memories. Inspired by the words of Deuteronomy, “when you rise,”  this gentle write-with-me book invites families to begin the day with Scripture, prayer, conversation, and thoughtful reflection.

Inside are comforting watercolor illustrations, simple Proverbs Scriptures, and guided “Wise Paths” pages where children can write goals and good choices they hope to make. The pages are intentionally flexible and undated, allowing children to revisit them over time and watch their hearts grow.

More than a workbook, When You Rise becomes a keepsake of childhood faith, morning conversations, and the quiet shaping of wisdom inside a family.

When You Rise was created for mornings.

But you know what?  IRL (in real life), mornings can be jumping on the bus with one shoe on and holding a cold Pop-Tart.  It’s your book. Use it when it fits your life. 😉 I get you.

The next book is When You Walk By The Way, a book for going places, and seeing the world God made.

When You Walk By The Way

Some of the sweetest conversations happen while life is already moving.

Walking through a park. Riding in the car. Visiting grandparents. Watching the clouds. Taking a family trip. Standing quietly beside something beautiful God created.

When You Walk By The Way was created to help parents and children slow down long enough to notice those moments together.

When you walk…

The book is inspired by the instruction found in Deuteronomy, “when you walk by the way.” This gentle write-with-me keepsake journal invites families to talk, remember, laugh, wonder, and reflect. Each section encourages children to share what they noticed, what mattered to them, and what stayed in their hearts after the day was over.

Inside are thoughtful prompts, Scriptures, prayers, and warm illustrations designed to make connection feel natural rather than forced. Over time, the pages become a collection of memories and conversations your family can return to again and again.

Not every meaningful moment happens around a table or during a planned lesson. Sometimes it happens simply while walking through life together.

You’ll enjoy plenty of Scriptures about being on the move, and that God is with us always. Plenty about creation.

Now that you’ve seen all four books, here’s something you may wonder about, since it’s kinda the way things are right now.

Tons of people are trying to make a fortune selling meaningless books online. They are told, “You don’t have to know anything, you don’t have to write. Just let AI make up stuff and then publish it in a book.”  It’s really sad. Because those books are simply AI-regurgitated material. Maybe some of them are helpful, but many are not.

So let me answer the question:

Did I use AI to write these?  Absolutely not . 😠

That just doesn’t work for me. 😎

You just saw my personal stories right here. They’re real. We really did write notes every evening, sitting on a plaid sofa from Unclaimed Freight. (If you didn’t have that sofa, your mom probably did.) The dog named “Trouble” was our family pet. And 4H camp really was the worst thing. My mom was so disappointed. 4-H camp was the best thing for her as a kid.  At mine, a lot of kids had a great time, I just wasn’t one of them.  Maybe that should be a book all its own.  😄

Just so you know, I love to read, I love to write, and I’d never let AI take any of that away from me. Or you.

(AI can help me organize lists and even help me plan my research. But he can’t hold my pen.)

The bottom line…

Always true: You’re for your child, and I’m for you.

So you and your child write a book, and it will be a treasure.

💖 I can’t wait to hear how it goes!
