HOW TO MAKE AN EASY MOTIVATIONAL MESSAGE BOARD

Wondering how to enjoy some of those amazing quotes you read and hear? I was, too.

But if I tried to frame each one as wall art, I’d run out of room, right?

So what if I could have them all, and let them take turns? Taking turns worked in Kindergarten, so I was thinking it could work for this project.

And I was right!

I kept working the idea in my head and looking online, and finally came up with something that’s easy to do and satisfies that quest to put those great inspirational sayings in a place they can be enjoyed.

EASY PROJECT: Motivational Message Board

I can’t tell you how easy this turned out to be.

The main part is a one-piece thing, “pallet wood wall decor” that I was able to easily mount to the wall with Command strips.

Attached to the front of the wall plaque are just 5 things:

  • a clip (kind of like the one at the top of a clipboard).
  • three small decorative hooks.
  • a very small plain flat hook.

All these things are attached with small screws.

The large clip holds a group of quotes printed on card stock. The tiny plain hook supports the bottom edge of the pages.  The decorative hooks hold various seasonal or inspirational elements.

The whole thing is attached to the wall with Command strips. Those hook-and-loop kind that make that wonderful squoosh sound when you press the opposite sides together.

That’s it!

Here’s how it turned out.

Before you shop, check your stash!

Do you have a “hobby stash” at home? Things you picked up and saved for a future project? I do! That’s where I had the white sign, which measures 26 x 15 inches. It would have been nice to have it just a little wider.

If you want to look at a couple of possibilities, I’m going to show you all the items I found at my favorite craft store, Hobby Lobby.  (Ahhh. Hobby Lobby. Just saying it makes me happy. I get a pleasant little euphoric feeling any time I enter the store.)

You need these things:

  • Wall plaque (and maybe paint)
  • Clip
  • 3 Hooks
  • A variety of  ornaments
  • 8 1/2 x 11 Quote Pages
  • 4 tiny wood screws

Get all your stuff, then sit down and see how it all fits. That’s how you decide where to attach the clip and the hooks.

Some of the ornaments I chose were 5-6 inches across, so it kind of mattered how close I placed the hooks. I also didn’t want any of the ornaments to extend beyond the edge. But I didn’t want them to overlap if I displayed more than one.  It was almost like math. But (whew) not quite.

So just keep moving things around until you get an arrangement that lets you use it the way you intend.

I did a lot of figuring before I mounted them. I needed tiny screws and managed to find them in my stash. I almost glued. But as the crafters say, why glue when you can make it a lot more secure?

Here are some of the things I used. They are all from Hobby Lobby. (They’re just pictures, not links. Sorry.) You can use this link to go to the store and shop online, or hop in the car and go for the euphoric feeling in the store.

You’ll love the ornament assortment during the holidays, and especially during clearance time! And they don’t really have to be seasonal at all! Just use what you like.

I’m a huge fan of JoAnn and Michaels also. Rummaging through the end-of-season stuff or the clearance rack gets me breathless.

MOTIVATIONAL MESSAGE PAGES

Bet you’re wondering where I got those cute pages, right? All those nice quotes?

I got them right here at Grammye’s Front Porch. That’s right — they are now in the Subscriber Resource Library.

The idea was to make pages that were neutral, simple, kind of black-and-white-almost-farmhouse.

I printed each one on card stock.

The clip will hold them all, and I can change the order any time so that a different one is displayed.

I’ll also be changing the ornaments that hang on the hooks.  Right now I have things for Thanksgiving and Christmas. We’ll see what happens later, won’t we?

If you want the pages, they are free!  Subscribers can get them from the Subscriber Resource Library right here at the blog.

But if you’re not a subscriber you won’t have the password. Click on either image below to get to the sign-up page. Enter your name and e-mail and you’ll receive access to all of them (both collections).  Along with aaaaall the other stuff you can print, all free.

This message board could be a great way to display Scripture, quotes, kids’ artwork, or just about anything.

I ended up using this one in the break room at work.  Anyone at work can change out the ornaments or quotes whenever they like.

But of course I’m already thinking about one for home.

Crafting. It sounds indulgent, and in a way it is. But please know this: I don’t have a cute craft room. Everything I do is at the kitchen table or spread out on the floor. I wouldn’t call myself a crafter. When I tell you something’s easy, it really is. Most of my DIY projects look exactly like DIY projects. But they work for me.  That’s what I want for you.
