Efficiently updated Sept 2024
Need some home office pretty workspace ideas? Let me get you started on selecting desk items and colors to inspire you and increase productivity.
Home Office Pretty Workspace Ideas
If you made a decision to work from home (or that decision was made for you) it may have entailed carving out a corner of space in a hurry.
When you’ve done that, you simply accept the space as it appears, and try to make it efficient.
Later, you start to realize little things you don’t like. Maybe the location, maybe the things around you. Those “little things” can start closing in on you, causing you to inwardly grumble.
Maybe you have a desk or table that works, but it’s not equipped the way you need it.
Remember who is being served — You!
And by extension, the people you serve.
Working at home can be so peaceful, so productive, and so creative. Could you increase those things with just a few tweaks?
Suppose I share
- five things you can review to improve your surroundings, and
- five products to consider to make your desk really work for you,
- five inspiring websites to look at for more help!
Ask yourself these five questions:
Question 1. What colors do you like to have around you?
Question 2. How much can you spend?
Question 3. What items do you really need to be organized and efficient?
Question 4. Can you envision the improvement these items will bring?
Question 5. Where are the best prices?
These don’t represent every single topic, but it’s a good start to a plan.
COLOR in your pretty home office
There’s a science about color, and you can get lost in all this. Color wheel, moods, effects. It is fascinating.
I did get kind of lost.
In the end I researched color palettes and tried to see what I was drawn to most of the time. I settled on colors for my website and used similar colors for my office items. It really does help me be creative and brand conscious.
You don’t have to spend a fortune to make things nice. You can be frugal and still make the purchases you need. I’ll show you a few things in a second to prove my point.
EFFICIENT Desk Arrangement
Try to consider your routines, even the details of what you need within easy reach. Working efficiently means having the setup you need to do so. For instance, what do you pick up frequently, and is there a good place for it?
Don’t feel discouraged if you are grumbling about your office space. You are actually at an advantage if you’ve found you don’t have what you need, or it’s not arranged well. Considering the challenges of your surroundings and solving problems gives you a tangible plan for improvement.
I’ll show you a few products below that helped me keep the cost down and still enjoy being organized and pleasant.
Remember — I’m not fancy. Sometimes I wish I could be. But I do know what things I need around me, and what makes me feel peaceful. You know that, too. It doesn’t take a ton of money to create your space.
I love my new cell phone case.
Pretty, durable, and I feel like I had a say-so in the design!
Haha — the design is called “Gripzilla” and it is perfect. I don’t fumble with it, and the phone doesn’t slide around when I lay it down.
You hever have enough of the necessary things…
Pretty file folders. I know, I know, digital files, and all that. But I still have paper files. I use them often.
Speaking of pretty, my secret weapon: Washi tape. You can use this to dress up any plain book or tablet or folder (or journal or poster or mood board or… you get the idea).
The simplest things! I love file folder stands. Here’s an example of a simple file folder stand.
If you’re feeling more traditional, there are others. The important thing is to let this hold your important frequently-accessed folders.
What about this really efficient desk organizer? I know, I know, more money. But look at the space it saves, keeping important items right at your fingertips!
The little things…
Use vinyl-coated jumbo paper clips and you’ll love their durability.
Your Pretty Home Office… For the big stuff
If you need a desk, chair, file cabinets, bookshelves, etc., search in your area for used office furniture. We found a huge warehouse near Atlanta with such a big selection we weren’t even able to see it all in a day. We found a great desk at a great price with matching pieces.
You can also look at hotel liquidator warehouses. They often have really pretty writing desks and their prices are unbeatable.
If you like to paint, you may get to do it. I’ve seen some beautiful desks that started as someone else’s trash and became a treasure.
Office Ergonomics
I’ve got another article about desk arrangements, with some talk about using a laptop and components.
It’s very important: please read about proper arrangements for your computer in the related article. Simple steps that avoid some of the discomforts that come from computer work.
There are product recommendations there, as well as explanations that make your needs more clear. I promise, your body will thank you!
