9 genius ways to use beach towels that have nothing to do with the beach. I’ve got five minutes to give you the list, because *schedule* and you know all about that.
Beach Towels are the Ultimate Multi-Tool
Wrestle away my shovel, even my coffee cup. But don’t come near my change-head screwdriver, my pressure washer, or my beach towels.
Even the threadbare towels from 1999 are still going around here. Here is the list of 9 ways you can use them (no swimming or sand involved) to make life easier.
9 Genius Ways To Use a Beach Towel (beyond the sand)
- Put a beach towel on the kitchen floor and create a surprise indoor picnic.
- Suspend a series of beach towels over 2 rows of chair backs, to create a tent. Tents are great for rainy days, long movies, reading time, and naps.
- Lay an old beach towel across the kitchen table when you do an art project. Just keep it with the paint supplies and setup is quick.
- You and each child head to a shady spot in the yard with a beach towel and a book. Read for ten minutes (or more if you forget to set the timer
).
- Have small children sit their stuffies on a beach towel that’s a “listening rug.” Now, tell those stuffies a story.
- Beach towels make great blankets for rest time. For some reason, using a beach towel doesn’t seem like it’s really a nap.
- Keep a beach towel in the back of your SUV to make a quick diaper change station on the flat surface there.
- Keep an old beach towel in a “park bag” to dry off the slides for your morning play time. Park bags are great — gummy packs, cookie packs, bottled water, and towels. Grab and go.
- Has it ever been a cold winter night, and time for the grandkids to go home? They don’t want to leave. What works? Put a beach towel into the dryer and get it really warm. Get the kids into their car seats, and snug the warm towel around them. (😏I know, genius.)
My five minutes is up.
Keep an eye on beach towels when you’re shopping. There are tons of them in the stores right now. And watch Walmart and Amazon for sales once July 4th is over. They’ll mark them down to make room for mittens and snowsleds.
Now, get out there and make some memories.
BEACH TOWELS For Geniuses Like Us
Go for oversized and really enjoy a hefty towel.
Want a sand-free towel? Some people love these.
Fun kid print beach towels are the ones they love. Some come with a matching pouch.
How about a big blanket style one (82 x 88 inches)?
If it’s time to refresh your beach towel collection, those are some great suggestions.
If you just need to find yours, get to it.
Either way, you’ll be ready for some really sweet and unusual moments with your littles.
I have to make myself remember: The pictures on the towels really aren’t a big deal to me. Towels are just tools, right? But for those kids, the pictures are everything.
When you (a genius) suggest the children use these towels, make it a celebration. I think that’s part of the magic.
One more thing…
Rolling towels instead of folding. It really does save some room. Have you tried it, but they’re messy? Or some of those trick folds and tucks just take way too long?
I watched a video. Which I can no longer find. Here’s how. Lay out the towel, and fold it into thirds from each side. That means it’s full length, with 2 folds, and it’s skinny. Now, from one end, fold down about 8 inches. Then from that fold you just made, start rolling. That little folded part will be in the middle (the core) of the rolled towel. Roll all the way to the end, and stack it in the closet. This really has worked for me.

I hope you enjoy what’s left of Summer. And remember, these ideas don’t even need Summer (or a beach!).
What’s needed? Just you and a little time for snuggles and togetherness. (And a beach towel.)
